Do not bring food or toys into the story time area. Food
and drinks are not permitted in the library except on special
occasions.
You should not sit in the story time area and chat with
other parents once the program starts. We enjoy seeing parents become
friends and make new acquaintances, but please do this before and after
story time. Turn all cell phones and pagers to vibrate, and please, if
you feel you must answer your cell phone, take it outside.
Story time will be shorter in length for this age:
approximately 25-30 minutes.
Parent/caregivers must attend story time with the child. If
you feel comfortable with this, we prefer you sit on the floor with the
child.
Books and activities will be introduced that encourage
children to interact with the story time leader. Parents/Caregivers are
strongly encouraged to interact as well!
If your child has difficulty settling down, becomes
restless or begins to cry, you should remove your children from the
area so he/she will not distract others.
Rules for Preschool storytime
(3-5 year olds):
Sessions are limited. You must sign up.
Parents or caregivers do not need to attend story time with
the children if your child shows he/she can handle story time alone We
leave that decision up to the parent/caregiver’s discretion. The
librarians may ask you to attend if extra help is needed. If you do
choose to attend, we want you to actively participate!
Adults should not sit in the story time area and chat with
other adults once the program starts. By talking during the program you
are demonstrating to your child that the program is not really
important or worthy of his or her attention. Turn all cell phones and
pagers to vibrate, and please, if you feel you must answer your cell
phone, take it outside.
Please discuss story time with your child before you come.
Explain that there will be stories, finger plays, singing and such.
Young children need to know what to expect and what is expected of
them. They need to understand that they are going to the library where
they will not be allowed to run or yell. However, it is okay to respond
to the storyteller during the program.
Please be on time. Story time starts promptly. Young
children are easily distracted and late arrivals become the focus of
interest.
If your child has difficulty settling down, becomes
restless or begins to cry, you should remove your child from the area
so he/she will not distract others.
Do not bring food or toys into the story time area. Food

occasions.
Parents of preschoolers, please observe whether your child
is ready to attend a structured program. Although we welcome all young
children, some toddlers are not developmentally ready for sitting still
for 45 minutes or more. If a child begins to talk or play, it distracts
the other children and the program.
